"Please rename Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park. As a historian of slavery and an advocate for remembering enslaved people's struggle, bravery, and resiliency, I am appalled by any public area/landmark that celebrates or remembers slaveholders, KKK members, and all around racists. It's important to remember that this park wasn't named during the Civil War or when slavery was still legal. It was not Confederates honoring those who died. This is straight up racism and should not and can not be tolerated. Please change the name of this lovely park." - SUPPORTER - Peter Cole | History Professor
"Please rename Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park. It is unconscionable that the state of Tennessee continues to honor a man who was a slave trader, in charge of the unit that conducted the Fort Pillow Massacre, and served as the first Grand Wizard of the KKK. Naming a park after him doesn't do justice to 'Southern heritage.' Rather, it insults the lives of the thousands of human beings that Forrest bought, sold, and killed. Symbols and names matter. Rename this park." - SUPPORTER - Seth Cotlar | History Professor

"Please rename Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park. Nathan Bedford Forrest was a white supreacist, traitor, a man who dishonored his service by murdering his war captives. Founding member of the KKK, a hate group. What is the matter with you, Tennessee? Dismantel all memorials to this vile man." - SUPPORTER - Dr. Alison Meek | Associate Professor of History
